Tinubu approves posting of 65 ambassadors to foreign missions, UN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions and the United Nations.

The appointments include 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December last year.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the envoys have been assigned to various countries and multilateral missions as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.

Among the non-career ambassadors posted are Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, Victor Ikpeazu to Spain, Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, Ambassador Joseph Sola Iji to Russia, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, and Professor Isaak Adewole to Canada.

Others include Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China, Ayodele Oke to France, Yakubu N. Gambo to Saudi Arabia, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The list of career ambassadors includes postings such as Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Maimuna Besto Ibrahim to Niger, Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica, Ogechukwu Kingsley Onaga to Mozambique, Umar Magaji to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, and Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.

The Presidency also disclosed that the United Kingdom has already granted agrément to Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, while France has approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries, requesting agreement in line with established diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu further directed the Ministry to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their formal deployment.
