The Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed the importance of media collaboration in promoting trade awareness, border security, and ongoing customs reforms across the country.
This formed the focus of the Zone B Media Parley held in Kano under the theme, “Building Synergy Between the Media and Customs for Enhanced Stakeholders Awareness and National Development.”
Speaking at the event, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abdullahi Aliyu, said the engagement was aimed at strengthening communication between Customs and the public through effective information dissemination.
Aliyu noted that the Service, under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has intensified trade modernisation and technology-driven reforms to improve operational efficiency, accountability, and trade facilitation.

According to him, the media remains critical in educating stakeholders, combating misinformation, and promoting public understanding of customs policies and border operations.
He disclosed that the Service recently organised training sessions for journalists covering customs and business beats in Abuja after discovering significant knowledge gaps in areas such as Advance Ruling, HS Codes, classification systems, and Import Adjustment Tax.
He added that the Service plans to deepen engagement with journalists across Northern Nigeria through dedicated media platforms and expanded partnerships with broadcast organisations in English, while also strengthening existing programmes in Hausa, Pidgin, and other languages.
The Acting Area Controller of Customs, Kano/Jigawa command, Usman Adamu applauded the Media for their continued support while assuring a open door policy at all times.
