The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Monday disclosed that it successfully resisted an internal attempt to undermine its leadership, even as it defended its record on staff welfare and institutional discipline.
The Commission said the failed move, allegedly driven by “certain individuals” acting through external actors, was rejected by staff, allowing management to quickly restore stability and maintain uninterrupted operations.
“Earlier today, there was an attempt by certain individuals to undermine the credibility of the current leadership through external actors. We are pleased to state that this effort was unsuccessful, as it was firmly rejected by disciplined and committed members of staff,” NAICOM said in a statement.
The development points to underlying tensions within the insurance regulator, although the Commission sought to downplay the incident, insisting that internal mechanisms for engagement remain open and effective.
NAICOM urged employees to channel grievances through official communication and dispute resolution frameworks, warning against actions capable of disrupting operations or eroding public confidence in the institution.
Beyond the incident, the Commission used the statement to push back against any perception of poor staff welfare, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve working conditions, career progression, and training.

It maintained that its human resource processes are transparent and merit-driven, with promotions based strictly on “clear, objective, and verifiable criteria” in line with public service rules.
“Staff welfare remains a key priority of the Commission,” it said, citing investments in capacity development, workplace improvements, and performance-based advancement.
The regulator also emphasised its commitment to discipline, integrity, and non-discrimination, noting that all employees are treated equally without favouritism.
Despite the disruption attempt, NAICOM insisted that normalcy has been fully restored and that all operations continue without interruption.
The Commission added that it remains focused on strengthening Nigeria’s insurance industry through effective regulation and institutional stability.
