Gawuna resigns as FMBN chairman, set to defect

The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned from his position.

Reports indicate that Gawuna has finalized plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with a formal announcement expected on Tuesday.

The move reportedly follows a political alignment with former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In his resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, the former APC governorship candidate said his decision takes immediate effect, in compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for political appointees to step down ahead of forthcoming political activities as required by the Electoral Act.

Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his time at the bank as a privilege to contribute to national development.

“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” the letter read.

He added that he was entrusting his future “into the Hands of Allah (SWT),” while seeking divine guidance on his next political steps.

Gawuna also pledged to support a smooth transition, assuring that he would hand over all responsibilities in line with established procedures.
