President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), following the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman.
The nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, was conveyed in a letter sent to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, requesting the lawmakers’ expeditious consideration in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.
Ambassador Yusuf is expected to take over from Professor Usman, who stepped down from the position earlier this week after about 14 months in office.

A career diplomat, Yusuf previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye between 2021 and 2024.
His appointment comes amid efforts to stabilise the leadership of the commission ahead of future Hajj operations.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
