The Budget Office of the Federation has pledged to publish outstanding Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs) by the end of September 2025, assuring stakeholders that the delay reflects efforts to maintain accuracy and credibility in fiscal reporting.

In a statement on Friday, the Office explained that the delay was caused by nationwide project verification exercises and Nigeria’s transition to an extended fiscal framework.

“This delay should not be seen as backsliding, but as a reflection of the care taken to ensure accuracy and credibility in Nigeria’s fiscal reporting during an exceptional budget cycle,” the Budget Office said.

It added that “by the end of September 2025, we will publish the full-year 2024 Budget Performance Report alongside the outstanding Q1–Q2 2025 reports, after which quarterly releases will resume on schedule.”

The Office also noted that reporting timelines were adjusted “to preserve coherence and accuracy in fiscal disclosures,” stressing that compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act remains a priority.

Going forward, the Budget Office said it is enhancing monitoring systems, strengthening collaboration with ministries, departments and agencies, and expanding digital integration of expenditure and project data to guarantee timeliness and integrity of future reports.
