The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has approved a new upward review of passport application fees, pegging the Standard Passport at ₦100,000 and ₦200,000, with the revised charges taking effect from September 1, 2025.

In a statement signed on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the adjustment applies only to applications submitted within Nigeria.

According to the new rates, the 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity has been pegged at ₦200,000.

The NIS, however, clarified that fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport, and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.

The Service explained that the review was necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.

This development comes less than a year after the Federal Government approved a similar upward adjustment in August 2024, which took effect on September 1, 2024. At the time, the 32-page, five-year passport rose from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet increased from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.

Immigration authorities then justified the increment as a measure to sustain the quality of the Nigerian passport and enhance service delivery.
