The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will suspend operations on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day, a significant federal holiday in the United States.

In a statement released via its official X handle, the US Mission in Nigeria announced the temporary closure, noting that the Memorial Day is dedicated to honouring American military personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation.

The holiday is observed annually on the last Monday in May.

Described as a day of reflection and national remembrance, Memorial Day in the US is marked by solemn ceremonies, the display of national flags, and tributes across the country to fallen servicemen and women.

As a result of the holiday, all routine consular operations at both the embassy and consulate will be unavailable for the day. Normal services are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 27.

The US Mission advised individuals requiring urgent consular assistance to visit its official website for emergency contact details.
