Nasarawa gov dismisses rumour of 2027 Senate ambition

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said it is untrue that he’s contesting the Senate seat in 2027 general election.

The Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, said though he has received appeals from the supporters, he’s yet to reach a decision as the government is more concerned about ongoing developmental efforts in the state.

The rebuttal followed remarks made earlier in the day by Suleiman Musa-Nagogo, Director-General of the State’s Bureau for Pension Administration, during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Wamba Local Government Area. Musa-Nagogo had claimed the governor had informed him of plans to contest for Senate.

But Addra dismissed the assertion, stating, “This claim is untrue and did not emanate from Governor Abdullahi Sule. The governor has not granted any audience to individuals or groups to confirm or market any candidacy for political office, including the Senate.”

He acknowledged that the governor had received appeals from various individuals and political groups to run for the Nasarawa North Senate seat, but stressed that Governor Sule had consistently and politely declined such calls.

“In all instances, Governor Sule has made it clear that his focus remains on fulfilling his mandate as governor and delivering on his covenant with the people of Nasarawa State,” the statement read.

The governor, according to the statement, remains committed to good governance and to leaving the state better than he met it. While appreciating the goodwill and endorsements from friends and political allies, he reiterated that he has not declared interest in any future political office.

“It is worth restating that he has never confirmed to anyone that he is running for any office,” Addra emphasised.
