The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has begun a strategic retreat in Kano to review remuneration packages for political, public, and judicial office holders.
In a statement by the commission on Thursday, the Chairman of Remuneration and Monetisation Committee, Hon. Mohammed Kabeer Usman, while declaring the retreat open said the review was crucial to Nigeria’s governance and stability.
He reminded participants that the 1999 Constitution empowers RMAFC to fix pay for political and judicial office holders, noting that earlier steps had been taken to align packages with economic realities.
According to him, “The Commission carefully considered a wide range of perspectives, including memoranda from stakeholders, public hearings, and ministerial submissions, while also drawing from economic indicators and remuneration practices in other countries.”

He added that the exercise was focused on sustainability. “The Commission has equally analyzed the capacity of the government to implement the review package, ensuring that recommendations remain fair, realistic, and sustainable,” he said.
Usman disclosed that the Committee was directed to merge earlier reports into a single framework for implementation.
The retreat, which is expected to provide a balanced and sustainable pay structure, is being attended by several Federal Commissioners and senior officials of the Commission.
