As part of measures to fulfil some of his campaign promises and tackle unemployment in the state, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has empowered 1,130 graduates from six specialised entrepreneurship training institutes in Kano to boost job creation and promote self-reliance among youths.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the disbursement on Saturday during a colourful ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House.

Governor Yusuf, in his address, described the programme as “rekindling hope, restoring dreams, and unlocking the enormous potential of young people” to become self-reliant, productive, and innovative contributors to Kano’s economy.

He noted that the six institutes were originally established during the tenure of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to equip youths with practical skills, but were shut down by the previous administration. His government, he said, had revived them to fulfill their original mission.

“Today, each graduate is leaving here not only with a certificate but also with an empowerment package relevant to their chosen trade,” Yusuf said. “By reviving these institutes and providing both tools and seed capital, we are reducing unemployment, curbing youth restiveness, and promoting self-reliance.”

Governor Yusuf urged the beneficiaries to see the items and funding as seeds to be nurtured into thriving businesses that would create jobs and improve livelihoods.

NNPP leader and founder of the institutes, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso represented by the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Ahmad Ajuji, commended the Governor for reviving the programme and wished the graduates success in their entrepreneurial journeys.

Also speaking, the Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by his Chief of Staff and Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Munir Sanusi, praised Yusuf’s “purposeful leadership” and vision for a prosperous Kano.

The event was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders, who hailed the initiative as a step towards sustainable economic development.
