RMAFC Chairman Honoured by NCSU as a Visionary Leader
Barbara Bako, Abuja.
Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu has received the “Visionary Leader With Political Will” award from the National Union of Civil Servants (NCSU). The honour was presented in recognition of his exemplary leadership and his strong, collaborative relationship with the Union, staff, management, and members of the Commission.
The award ceremony was held at the RMAFC Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, drawing union leaders from the National Council, Federal Council, and Commission branches. Speakers at the event praised Dr. Shehu’s inclusive, transparent, and responsive style of governance.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Shehu expressed gratitude to the Union and emphasized the importance of mutual respect and open communication in fostering positive labour relations. “I have always maintained that leadership must be rooted in sincerity and fairness. From the onset of my tenure, I made a deliberate effort to listen to the concerns of staff and engage the Union constructively. I believe this approach has been key to the peaceful and cooperative atmosphere we enjoy at the Commission today,” he said.
He went on to reflect on the values that have shaped his approach to leadership. “As someone raised by a father who served as both a civil servant and a community leader, I understand the values of humility, service, and engagement. I have no interest in influencing union decisions or elections. I respect the autonomy of workers to choose their representatives, and I am committed to working with whomever they elect in good faith and partnership.”
Representing the NCSU National Chairman, Comrade Adoga Rufada, the Union’s National Vice President, Comrade Ganiyat Adeogun, applauded the harmonious relationship between the Commission’s leadership and the staff union. “Such a productive relationship is only possible under a purposeful, transparent, and people-centred leadership,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo, the General Secretary of the Union, commended Dr. Shehu for his dedication and achievements.
He said, “The National Executive has directed me to express deep appreciation to the Chairman and to encourage him to continue his outstanding work. With this level of dedication and leadership, there is no doubt that national honours are within reach.”
He added, “The award being presented today is a collective expression of gratitude from the National Federal Council and the Regional Legislative Units of the NCSU for the remarkable achievements the Union has recorded under your leadership.”
Comrade Mohammed Kolo, Auditor of the NCSU Federal Council, highlighted Dr. Shehu’s openness and swift response to staff issues as hallmarks of his leadership, describing his administration as one of “unmatched responsiveness to staff concerns and genuine openness to Union engagement.”
The Chairman of the RMAFC chapter of the NCSU, Comrade Muhammed Rabiu Enagi, also spoke at the ceremony, pledging to maintain the cordial ties between the Union and the Commission’s leadership. He expressed hope for even greater progress in the future.
Former RMAFC NCSU Chapter Chairman and past Vice Chairman of the NCSU Federal Council, Comrade Isa Usman Dagiri, lauded Dr. Shehu’s inclusive style and reaffirmed the chapter’s continued support.
The event closed on a high note with a rousing rendition of the Union’s solidarity anthem, led by Dagiri, symbolizing the deep-rooted goodwill between the Union and the Commission.
The ceremony ended with a unified call to deepen cooperation between the RMAFC and the Union, built on mutual trust, dialogue, and a shared vision of institutional growth and excellence.
