President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new governing councils for three federal universities namely University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), months after dissolving UNIABUJA’s council amid leadership controversy.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu named four new members for UNIABUJA’s council, including Prof. Rosemary Egonmwan (South-South), Dr. Adedeji Adefuye (South-West), Prof. Sarki Abdulkadir (North-West), and Prof. Aminu Dukku (North-East).
This comes months after the president dismissed the previous council and sacked Vice-Chancellor Aisha Maikudi over eligibility concerns.
At UNN, the president appointed Ogbonna Odo (South-East) and Muhammad Tahir (North-West), while NAU’s new council members include Dr. Nkem Okeke and Ofoke Ugbala (both South-East), Dame Yakowa (North-West), and Nojeeb Agunbiade (South-West).
The appointments aim to strengthen university governance and restore stability across the institutions.
