The Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA) has intensified efforts to sanitize the state’s advertising landscape, removing 76 illegal signboards and strengthening regulatory compliance as part of measures to enhance public safety, environmental sustainability, and revenue generation.
The Director-General of the Agency, Comrade Kabir Dakata, disclosed this during an interactive session with members of the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ) in Kano.
Dakata said the agency has continued to work closely with the Kano State Ministries of Environment and Works to ensure that advertising activities comply with environmental regulations and public safety standards while supporting the state’s development objectives.
According to him, since assuming office, the management of KASA has prioritised stakeholder engagement and consultations aimed at creating a conducive business environment for advertisers while ensuring strict adherence to established regulations.
He explained that the agency’s collaborative approach is designed to support effective product promotion, protect the environment, and improve internally generated revenue for the state.
The Director-General noted that KASA remains the statutory body responsible for regulating signage and advertisement activities across Kano State, ensuring that only approved structures are erected in designated locations and that all advertising materials meet required safety and quality standards.
He revealed that the removal of the illegal signboards followed extensive monitoring and enforcement activities carried out in accordance with legal procedures and backed by court orders.

Dakata stated that the enforcement exercise has significantly curtailed revenue leakages and restored order within the outdoor advertising sector, adding that revenue collection has now been streamlined through the Central Billing System (CBS) to enhance transparency and accountability.
He further disclosed that the agency is compiling details of revenue generated since the commencement of its operations for presentation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the general public.
On public safety, the KASA boss emphasized that the agency is addressing the risks posed by poorly constructed and improperly located signboards, particularly those erected before the establishment of the agency. He said such structures are either removed or upgraded to meet approved standards.
Dakata commended ASKOJ for the visit, describing the engagement as timely and beneficial. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to partnering with the media and other critical stakeholders to promote compliance, improve public awareness, and contribute to the overall development of Kano State.
