The Tax Ombud/Chief Executive of the Office of the Tax Ombud, Dr. John Nwabueze, has reaffirmed his commitment to increasing Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio by protecting taxpayers’ rights, promoting accountability, and advancing fairness in the tax administration system.

Dr. Nwabueze made this commitment while speaking at a reception held in his honour by the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge, following his appointment as Tax Ombud/Chief Executive of the Office of the Tax Ombud.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nwabueze expressed profound gratitude to the people of Asaba for the recognition and warm reception, describing the honour as both humbling and inspiring.

“To be celebrated by my own people fills me with profound gratitude and joy. It reminds me of my responsibilities to my community and strengthens my resolve to serve with integrity and dedication,” he said.

He paid special tribute to the Asagba of Asaba for the honour and for his leadership in recognising sons and daughters of Asaba who have distinguished themselves in public service.

“Our appointments are not for personal glory but for public duty. They are a call to represent Asaba well, to serve Nigeria, to serve humanity, and to ensure that government works for all Nigerians,” he stated.

Dr. Nwabueze commended His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for policies aimed at stabilising the Nigerian economy and advancing institutional reforms. He described the establishment of the Office of the Tax Ombud as a significant demonstration of the President’s commitment to fairness, accountability, and efficiency in tax administration.

He further described the reception as a charge from the Asagba and the people of Asaba to serve with excellence and uphold the values and reputation of the community wherever duty calls.

Seeking the continued support of the community, Dr. Nwabueze appealed for prayers, guidance, and encouragement as he undertakes the responsibilities of his office.

In his remarks, the Asagba of Asaba commended President Tinubu for finding sons of Asaba worthy of appointment as chief executives of key federal government institutions and organisations. He also assured the President of the continued support of the people of Asaba for his administration.

Highlighting the purpose of the royal reception in honour of the appointees, Prof. Azinge noted that the civic gathering, which is not the first of its kind, provides an opportunity to promote unity, peace, and prosperity in Asaba.

Other Asaba sons honoured by the Asagba include Dr. Kene Omo, Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, and Dr. Chinedu Owunze, Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Government.
