MISR Insurance eyes Nigeria’s post-reform market

A delegation from Egypt’s MISR Insurance Group has expressed interest in exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s insurance sector following the enactment of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025.

The delegation, led by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohammed Maharaj, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, in Abuja to discuss prospects within the country’s evolving insurance landscape.

Maharaj was accompanied by Assistant CEO, Ahmed Alkanhawy, and Mr. Hossein Shaky of the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria.

They were received by the leadership of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), which highlighted ongoing regulatory reforms and efforts aimed at strengthening the insurance market in line with Nigeria’s broader economic objectives.

During the meeting, NAICOM reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with international partners to enhance market capacity, improve industry standards and safeguard policyholders’ interests.

Maharaj noted that MISR Insurance is particularly interested in Nigeria’s non-life and reinsurance segments.

He also disclosed plans to engage key industry stakeholders in Lagos as part of efforts to assess potential market entry and strategic partnerships.
