The Rivers State House of Assembly has reconvened after a six-month suspension imposed during the state of emergency.

The assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, resumed sittings on Thursday at the Assembly Residential Complex along the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Plenary had last been held on March 12, 2025, about a week before President Bola Tinubu declared an emergency rule in the state. The legislature was suspended alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

As the House returned to legislative business, a large crowd of supporters gathered at the Government House in anticipation of the governor’s arrival following his reinstatement.
