The Nigerian Navy has ramped up its fight against crude oil theft with the dismantling of a large illegal refining site in Bayelsa, warning that the menace poses a grave threat to the nation’s economy and environment.

In a joint operation on Friday, August 22, 2025, personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH in collaboration with Operation DELTA SAFE stormed Biseni Community, where they uncovered and dismantled a large-scale illegal refining site located at Latitude 5.245439°N and Longitude 6.522158°E.

The facility was destroyed on-site as part of an operational campaign to cripple oil theft networks and safeguard Nigeria’s energy security.

Naval authorities stressed that illegal refining does not only deprives the country of vital revenue but also pollutes fragile ecosystems in the Niger Delta.

The Navy reiterated its determination to sustain the offensive and warned perpetrators that it would not relent until the illicit trade is stamped out.
