Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has underscored the importance of a well-grounded judicial system in supporting the growth and credibility of the nation’s capital market.…
Speaking at the opening of a special workshop for judges organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Abuja, Shettima stressed that a vibrant capital market depends on laws that are not only clear but also consistently upheld by the courts.
The Vice President said, “The trust investors place in our market is deeply tied to how well we enforce the rules. When the judiciary understands the dynamics of capital market operations, it helps build investor confidence and ensures fair play.”
Organized in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI), the workshop aims to build judicial capacity on emerging financial issues, including securities regulation, digital finance, and investment dispute resolution.
Shettima noted that as financial products become more complex, it is essential for judicial officers to stay updated on global trends. He also praised the SEC for fostering dialogue between the legal community and market regulators.
In his welcome address, SEC Director-General Dr. Emomotimi Agama said the initiative is part of the Commission’s broader goal to enhance market transparency and investor protection.
“Our focus is to ensure that those who interpret and apply the law are equipped with the right knowledge to do so,” Agama stated. “This engagement with the judiciary is a step towards a more stable and efficient market.”
