Skyline University of Nigeria has graduated 223 students comprising graduate and postgraduate students in the 2024/2025 session, marking 4th convocation ceremony.

The ceremony held in Kano on Saturday, drew dignitaries from all walksof life including government officials, traditional rulers and members of the academic community.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V, said the institution’s vision goes beyond producing job seekers. He noted that the University is committed to developing job creators who can drive social and economic transformation in Nigeria.

A total of 223 degrees were conferred, comprising 180 bachelor’s degrees and 43 postgraduate degrees. Twenty-four students graduated with First Class Honours, while 79 earned Second Class Upper division. The university has also expanded from two to five schools, now offering programmes in Legal Studies, Basic Medical Sciences, and Postgraduate Studies—including new professional degrees such as Law, Nursing, and Physiotherapy.

Professor Kumar highlighted the signing of four new international MoUs with institutions such as Keele University (UK) and Sheridan College (Canada), aimed at strengthening academic exchange and research. He also announced NUC approval for seven new part-time undergraduate programmes designed for working professionals.

Under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives,VC said the university trained 1,000 school teachers and over 150 youths and women in vocational and digital skills. Through the World Bank IDEAS Project, it is set to train another 1,000 Nigerian youths in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.

In his remarks, the former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed grave concern over the rising spate of bandit attacks in Kano State, urging the Federal Government to take swift action to prevent further deterioration of security in the region.

He said several border communities have been deserted in recent weeks following repeated incursions by armed groups.

He described the escalating insecurity as a dangerous spillover from neighbouring Katsina State, identifying Shanono, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, Gwarzo, and Karaye Local Government Areas as the most affected.

“Kano was very secure until recently, when it began facing aggressive attacks from Katsina,” he lamented. “Based on available information, bandits enter from Katsina, commit crimes, and flee back freely.”

The former governor also commended Skyline University for appointing Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as its Pro-Chancellor, calling the decision well deserved. He praised the institution, Kano’s first private university, as one of the best in Northern Nigeria, noting the quality of its diverse academic and non-academic staff.

“In terms of number, it is difficult to recall any university, not only in Kano but across the country, with so many experts and expatriates coming to teach,” he said. While acknowledging that this raises tuition fees, Kwankwaso maintained that the investment is worthwhile.

In his convocation address, Emir Sanusi II delivered an inspiring message to the graduating students, urging them to view education as a call to service anchored in integrity and courage.

“Each of you is a story of determination and a symbol of hope for the future of our great nation,” he said. He reminded them that “education is not simply about earning a degree, but about discovering your purpose,” stressing that the world rewards action, not just knowledge.

“Knowledge without action is like a lamp without oil—bright in theory but powerless in the dark,” he added, challenging the graduates to uphold values that uplift communities and strengthen systems. He urged Skyline University to continue producing leaders defined not only by achievement but by impact.
