The Nigeria Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS), National Headquarters, Abuja, is set to hold its 20th Annual General Conference and Shari’ah @ 25 Colloquium from 17th to 21st December, 2025 in Kano State.…
The announcement came in a statement released by the association’s National President, Ambassador Ibrahim Muhammad Usman, on Tuesday, while he stressed the need for sponsorship, collaboration, and partnership from both local and international institutions to ensure better deliberation of the program.
Speaking ahead of the event, the National President said that the conference represents “a historic platform for reflection, learning, and strategic engagement on the journey of Shari’ah in Nigeria, particularly its role in fostering justice, morality, and human development.”
The landmark event, themed “Shari’ah Implementation in a Secular State: Historical Background, Challenges and Way Forward,” will bring together Muslim law students, legal practitioners, Islamic scholars, policymakers, and faith-based leaders from across Nigeria and beyond. It seeks to examine twenty-five years of Shari’ah re-implementation in Nigeria, evaluate its impact on justice administration and societal reform, and chart the course for future development within a plural legal system.

As the foremost umbrella body for Muslim law students across Nigerian universities and law schools, NAMLAS is a registered, faith-based, non-political, and non-profit organisation committed to promoting Islamic legal scholarship, ethical leadership, and justice rooted in Islamic values.
The 2025 Conference will feature paper presentations, panel discussions, moot court sessions, Qur’anic reflections, public speaking competitions, client counselling exercises, mentorship sessions, and capacity-building workshops designed to enhance the intellectual, moral, and professional growth of young Muslim law students and other participants.
Participants will also enjoy excursions to historic and legal institutions in Kano, alongside interactive engagements with jurists, scholars, and senior members of the Bar and Bench. The event aims to strengthen the bridge between Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary law while celebrating the enduring relevance of Shari’ah in Nigeria’s socio-legal framework.
Over 500 delegates are expected to attend from all parts of Nigeria, including representatives of government institutions, Islamic organisations, universities, and professional bodies.
