The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has inaugurated a team of consultants to lead a nationwide revenue recovery drive aimed at curbing leakages and improving fiscal transparency.

The ceremony, held on Monday in Abuja, was jointly presided over by RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, and the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue Matters and FIRS Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, represented by Coordinating Director, Mr. Shettima Tamadi.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shehu said the exercise represents a major step in ensuring that all revenues due to the Federation are fully recovered and remitted into the Federation Account.

“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted,” he stated.

He explained that engaging consultants was a strategic initiative aimed at closing revenue gaps, enhancing transparency, and boosting the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“With the full support of Mr. President, the Special Adviser on Revenue, and the FIRS Executive Chairman, this initiative to identify and recover unremitted revenues across sectors of the economy was brought into light,” Dr. Shehu added.

In his remarks, FIRS Chairman Dr. Adedeji, represented by Mr. Tamadi, commended RMAFC’s proactive leadership and pledged continued collaboration between both agencies to strengthen the country’s revenue framework.

“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” he said.

The Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Joseph Nwaeze Okechukwu, also urged the consultants to deliver on their mandate within the stipulated six-month period, emphasizing that all identified recoverable revenues must be promptly returned to the Federation Account to support national development priorities.

Responding on behalf of the engaged firms, lead consultant Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke described the assignment as a “national call to duty,” pledging transparency and measurable results in the execution of the project.

“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal, ready to deliver results that will strengthen the nation’s revenue base,” he said.

The inauguration, according to RMAFC, marks a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to enhance inter-agency cooperation, improve accountability, and maximize revenue generation for the collective benefit of the Federation.
