President Bola Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and ex-Chairman of the Police Service Commission, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 69.
In a condolence message, President Tinubu commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force, as well as the family, friends, and associates of the late security chief, describing him as a “highly resourceful officer” whose reforms brought lasting changes to policing in Nigeria.
The President highlighted Arase’s legacy in introducing initiatives such as the Intelligence Response Team, Complaint Response Unit, and Safer Highway Patrols during his tenure as the 18th indigenous IGP.

“Arase served the police force meritoriously from 1981 to 2016. During his career, he led tactical, operational, and intelligence units, including United Nations Peacekeeping in Namibia, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, and the Principal Staff Officer to three IGPs,” President Tinubu said.
He also noted Arase’s post-retirement service to the country, including his leadership of the Police Service Commission, his role in enforcing the Edo State Anti-Community Development Association Law, and his contributions as a security consultant to both local and international organisations.
President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of Arase’s soul, saying his wealth of experience and contributions to Nigeria’s security architecture“will be deeply missed.”
