The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a full-scale investigation into Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train, assuring Nigerians that the outcome will strengthen safety in the nation’s rail transport system.
The incident, which occurred at about 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations, left six passengers injured but no fatalities were recorded.
NSIB Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said investigators had been deployed to the scene to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the derailment.

“Our mandate is clear, to uncover the root cause and make recommendations that will enhance rail safety across the country,” he stated.
The Bureau’s director of public affairs and family assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, added that the go-team would collect evidence, consult stakeholders, and examine operational practices to ensure a thorough review.
According to NSIB, the findings will guide safety recommendations aimed at preventing future accidents and restoring public confidence in rail travel.
