The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajuddeen Abbas, has secured five billion Naira Federal Government intervention projects for Ahmadu Bello University.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jameel Ahmad Muhammad, during a courtesy visit to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala.

The Chairman stated that the Speaker had secured many interventions projects executed at Kongo Campus, ranging from installation of solar mini grid, to the rehabilitation of the Kongo sports complex, saying the gesture had now been extended to the Samaru campus.

According to the Chairman, the Speaker would build a new building for the Faculty of Social Sciences and others based on the recommendation of the University.

He said the Speaker also planned to facilitate the renovation of other facilities at the Kongo Campus.

Engr. Jameel, who is also an alumnus of the university, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for the warm reception accorded to him.

Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, commended the Speaker for the interventions.

Prof. Bala noted that the Faculty of Social Sciences was not part of the ABU master plan, as it was a breakaway from the then Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences due to development of new trends.

The Vice-Chancellor called on the contractors, Laralec Ultimate Limited not to compromise on quality as the University placed high premium on quality.

He said that the University would rather not have the projects in the first place if standards would be compromsed.

Prof. Bala emphasized that they should focus on the functionality rather than aesthetic of the buildings.

He thanked the Speaker and the Chairman for their generosity to the University and urged other alumni to always give back to their alma mater.

Those, who supported the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the Chairman were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Raymond Bako.

They also included the representative of the Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia; representative of the Bursar, Malam Garba Shehu; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Yusuf Mohammed Yusuf, among others.
