A lawmaker representing Kano South senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, has decamped from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senator’s romance with the leadership of the APC in recent times has cast doubt on his continued loyalty to the opposition NNPP.

In May 2022, Sumaila, who is a former member of the house of representatives, dumped the APC for the NNPP.

However, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Sumaila, who also served as senior special assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on national assembly matters, announced his return to the ruling party.

“Yes, it is true — the rumours regarding my defection are accurate,” he wrote.

“All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency.

“I am resolutely determined to advance the lives of my people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured.”

His defection adds to the growing list of politicians joining the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta state, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

“We came to the inevitable conclusion that moving out of the PDP is very, very necessary for us to be able to collaborate with our kith and kin and build that state that every Deltan will be proud of,” Charles Aniagwu, Delta state commissioner for information, announced.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives, Whole Oke dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.

The lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade federal constituency of Osun State didn’t give reasons for his action in the letter addressed to the Ward 7 PDP chairman of Obokun LG.
